SIGFUSSON NORTHERN / BENTONITE BATCHING, DELIVERY AND EQUIPMENT
Project Overview
The Magino Mine Project near Dubreuilville, Ontario involved the construction of a new open-pit gold mine, processing plant, and tailings facilities for Argonaut Gold. Multicrete Systems Inc was engaged by Sigfusson Northern to supply a mobile batching system and delivery fleet to produce and place large volumes of sand-cement-bentonite (SCB) and structural concrete for tailings dam construction.
Project Scope
Multicrete provided a mobile batching plant, colloidal mixing system, and ready-mix truck fleet to produce and deliver SCB and 35 MPa concrete on site. Materials were batch-tested, mixed, and placed directly into prepared dam locations, achieving production rates up to 24 m³/hour. A secondary structural concrete mix was also introduced and produced using the same system to improve efficiency and reduce material requirements.
Equipment & Winterization
The system included a four-bin PLC-controlled batch plant, cement silos, and an in-house colloidal mill for bentonite processing. For winter operations, the plant was fully enclosed and heated with a boiler system, heat-traced water lines, and a sand warming system, enabling continuous production in temperatures down to -30°C.
Final Product
The project successfully delivered 7,750 m³ of SCB and 5,357 m³ of concrete, completing ahead of schedule while meeting all production and quality requirements
